How to play - step by step

  1. 1

Give everyone two minutes to think of two true facts and one believable lie about themselves.

  2. 2

Sit in a circle. One person goes first and shares all three statements.

  3. 3

The group discusses and asks one question each to find the lie.

  4. 4

Everyone votes for the statement they think is false.

  5. 5

The speaker reveals the lie and tells the story behind a true fact.

  6. 6

Rotate until everyone has had a turn; give a point for each correct guess.

Benefits

  • Helps new and quiet people open up quickly.
  • Builds trust and breaks down hierarchy between teams.
  • Creates shared stories and inside jokes that last.
  • Needs little or no preparation or budget.

What you need

  • None - just a circle of chairs or a video call.
  • Optional: a timer and small prizes.

Rules

  • Facts must be safe, work-appropriate, and not private.
  • Everyone may pass if they do not want to share.
  • Ask questions kindly - no interrogation.

Scoring and winning

  • One point for every correct guess; the best guesser gets a small prize.
  • An extra point for the best lie that fools the group.

Variations

  • Work edition: two true achievements and one made-up one.
  • Memory twist: guess lies from the whole team on a single slide.
  • Team story: each person adds one fact for a team page.

Playing it online

  • Use breakout rooms of four to five, then share the funniest in the main call.
  • Vote with chat reactions, polls, or numbers 1-3.

Tips for the host

  • Start with a leader or the host to set a warm, honest tone.
  • Encourage statements that are surprising but light.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Sharing health, family problems, or sensitive history.
  • Forcing quiet people to speak.
  • Letting the game run too long - 30 minutes is enough.
