Quiz and trivia league

A friendly knowledge league - company trivia, general knowledge, film, sports, and food rounds - played in mixed teams over a lunch break.

Duration
60-90 minutes
Group size
12-80 people
Budget
Very low ($3-$6 per person)
How often
Monthly or quarterly

Benefits

  • Needs almost no budget and works for in-person, remote, and hybrid teams.
  • Shares company knowledge in a fun way - history, products, values.
  • Rewards curiosity rather than seniority.

What you need

  • A quizmaster and 40-60 prepared questions in 5-6 rounds.
  • A projector or a shared screen, and answer sheets or an online quiz tool.
  • Team names, a timer, and a scoring sheet.

How to run it - step by step

  1. 1

Form teams of four to six with a mix of departments and levels.

  2. 2

Open with an easy warm-up round, then run themed rounds, including one about the company.

  3. 3

Use a mix of formats: multiple choice, picture round, audio round, and a final “wager” round.

  4. 4

Tally scores after each round and share the leaderboard to keep energy up.

  5. 5

Finish with a tie-break question and a light prize for the top three teams.

Variations

  • Run it live on a quiz platform with phones for remote or large groups.
  • Rotate the quizmaster so different employees host.
  • Make a themed edition around a festival, a product launch, or the company’s anniversary.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Questions that depend on one language, culture, or region and exclude others.
  • Too many rounds - 60 to 90 minutes is the sweet spot.
  • Unclear scoring and disputes with no final referee.
